Office 365

Office 365 provides you with free online access to software including, Word, Excel and OneNote from any web browser.

You can install Office software to our own device.

  1. Visit https://www.office.com
  2. Log in with your email address and password
  3. Select ‘Install Office Apps’

MATLAB

MATLAB® is the high-level language and interactive environment used by millions of engineers and scientists worldwide. It lets you explore and visualize ideas and collaborate across disciplines including signal and image processing, communications, control systems, and computational finance. MATLAB can be installed on personal laptops and desktops, even if they are located off-site. Members of staff who wish to use MATLAB at home are able to do so under an agreement between MathWorks and City, University of London.

To use MATLAB

  1. Raise a service request ticket with the IT Service Desk by selecting 'Log an IT Service Request'. Locate the 'Software Requests' category and then select 'Student/Home use software request'.
  2. Once you have submitted your request, you will receive an email to confirm further instructions.
  3. You will then receive an email direct from MathWorks with your login detail.
  4. The installation instructions are provided in the first email. Alternatively, use the Installation of MATLAB instructions to complete your installation.
  5. Once students have registered to use MATLAB they can also acquire online training. Students will have until the end of July to access and complete the course content.

Minitab

Minitab is a popular statistical analysis package used for scientific applications, in particular for design and analysis of experiments, time series, charts and plots.

NVivo

NVivo is a qualitative data analysis package for use by qualitative researchers working with text-based and/or multi-media information. It supports a range of data formats including audio files, videos, digital photos, Word, PDF, spreadsheets, rich text, plain text, and web and social media data. Information can be interchanged with other applications. City, University of London now provides site licences for both Windows and macOS. It can be installed on personal laptops and desktops, even if they are located off-site. Members of staff who wish to use NVivo at home are able to do so under an agreement between QSR International and City, University of London.

To use NVivo

  1. Raise a service request ticket with the IT Service Desk by selecting 'Log an IT Service Request'. Locate the 'Software Requests' category and then select 'Student/Home use software request'.
  2. Once you have submitted your request, you will receive an email to confirm further instructions.
  3. The authorisation code will be sent to your mailbox. Login into your City email to check and obtain the code.
  4. You are required to download the software after receiving the code. The installation links are provided in the first email. Alternatively, click on the relevant installation link below.

OxMetrics

OxMetrics is a family of software packages for the econometric and financial analysis of time series, forecasting, econometric model selection and for the statistical analysis of cross-sectional data and panel data. It can be installed on personal laptops and desktops, even if they are located off-site. Members of staff who wish to use OxMetrics at home are able to do so under an agreement between Timberlake and City, University of London.

To use OxMetrics

  • Raise a service request ticket with the IT Service Desk by selecting 'Log an IT Service Request'. Locate the 'Software Requests' category and then select 'Student/Home use software request'.

Installation guide for OxMetrics 7

SPSS Statistics and AMOS

SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) is one of the most popular statistical packages which can perform highly complex data manipulation and analysis. Members of staff can use SPSS at home and it is available for installation on personal laptops and desktops.

To use SPSS

  1. Raise a service request ticket with the IT Service Desk by selecting 'Log an IT Service Request'. Locate the 'Software Requests' category and then select 'Student/Home use software request'.
  2. Once you have submitted your request, you will receive an email to confirm further instructions.
  3. The software key will be sent to your mailbox. Login into your City email to check and obtain the software key.
  4. You are required to download the software after receiving the key. The installation links are provided in the first email. Alternatively, click on the relevant installation link below.

Please note, it is necessary to renew your SPSS authorisation code annually around August each year.
