President’s Welcome

Congratulations on obtaining the grades you needed to join us and I trust you had a relaxing and rewarding summer.

City is a special place. We are committed to academic excellence, focused on business and the professions and offer the academic, employment, cultural, sporting and social opportunities you would expect from a prestigious institution in a major world city. City is ranked second in the UK for graduate salaries (six months after graduation) by The Student Room, seventh in the UK for relative graduate starting salaries by The Economist (2017) and received a Silver award in the latest Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF).

We have a rich Victorian heritage with close links to the City of London, Tech City in Shoreditch and the design quarter of Clerkenwell.

Many of our academics produce research that ranks with the very best in the world. You will learn with them as they develop their subjects and as you take greater responsibility for your learning.

2018 is an exciting time to be a part of City: our membership of the University of London will only add to your City experience. For example, you will gain access to a larger student community, numerous student societies, additional sports facilities, accommodation provision and libraries.

Our focus on business and the professions and extensive links with major London graduate employers provide you with employment opportunities before and after graduation.  We provide specialist careers advice and placement opportunities so you can graduate with confidence, knowing that you are well-prepared for the working world.

But remember, there is more to City than academic study and career planning. Islington and the City are vibrant parts of London in which to study and socialise and I would encourage you to explore what is available. The local area offers world class dance, music, theatre, galleries and museums, including Sadler’s Wells and the Barbican.

I would also encourage you to take advantage of the extra-curricular opportunities on offer through the Students' Union, its clubs and societies; and to make full use of CitySport, the largest student sports facility in central London.

We are here to support you at every step of your journey, from induction to graduation. Through our award-winning Student Services, you can expect friendly support and advice on areas from finance and accommodation to learning support and wellbeing.

I'm very pleased that you have joined us and I hope that you enjoy your induction to City, University of London.
