Our key support services are listed below and explain how they can help you to navigate the highs and lows of higher education, offer support in an online environment and provide advice on living in London and making the most of your student experience.

Additional support

There’s lots of support available at City to help you succeed in your studies and exams. Find out how the teams can help you below.

If you have a mental or physical health condition, disability, autism spectrum disorder or specific learning difference such as dyslexia that could impact your exams, you may also be entitled to additional support including exam adjustments. To receive adjustments in your exams, you must complete the registration process with the relevant specialist service(s) by the deadline.

Specialist services to register with:

  • The Mental Health team is a specialist service which offers a range of support for students with diagnosed mental health conditions and care leavers. This may include help with your transition to the institution, recommendations for reasonable adjustments, longer term emotional support and advice about Disabled Students Allowance for Mental Health.
  • The Disability Team offers disabled students’ advice, recommendations for adjustments and support throughout their time at City. This can include regular, confidential one-to-one appointments, liaison with other university departments and advice about Disabled Students Allowances.
  • The Neurodiversity Support team offers specialist 1:1 support, advice and reasonable adjustments to students with specific learning differences (SpLDs), including dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia and ADHD. Screenings are also available for students who believe they might have a specific learning difference.

Other support services:

  • Student Health & Wellbeing offers long term group counselling, brief initial consultations, 1:1 counselling, CBT interventions and psycho-educational workshops, as well as information on self-help resources.
  • The Chaplaincy team offers support to everyone at City; welcoming every faith, belief and culture. They provide a listening ear to students and support for the faith societies.
  • The Academic Skills Team is here to help you develop your skills so that you can learn more effectively and boost your performance. They offer workshops, embedded sessions, and 1:1 tutorials to all students. The service is available throughout the year; there’s no need to wait until your studies get difficult.
  • The Student Adviser Team in the Student Centre provide friendly, professional and efficient advice and guidance on anything related to your life as a student here at City. You can talk to a member of the team about any issue or difficulty you may be facing during your time at University through phone, email or booking an appointment.
  • City University Students’ Union Advice are a free, independent and confidential service providing advice on academic issues affecting City, University of London students. Their aim is to provide guidance on University procedures and, ultimately, to empower you to make your own decisions on how to proceed. The main areas of advice offered are; extenuating circumstances, academic appeals, academic misconduct, complaints, fitness to practice procedures, student conduct and disciplinary matters.
  • City Cares is City’s dedicated, comprehensive programme of support for care-experienced, young adult carers, young estranged students and asylum seekers. We are committed to providing financial, pastoral and educational support, for every student in the City Cares community.

Online toolkit for Autistic students

Autism & Uni is a toolkit that can give autistic students information, strategies and tools for overcoming the challenges they may typically encounter during the transition to university.
