Centre for Language Studies

Information about Free Language Courses

The Centre for Language Studies offers free language courses to all students at City. The courses are designed to develop and improve your language competencies from beginner level up to advanced. They are general purpose courses, designed for you to learn Arabic, French, German, Mandarin and Spanish in the context of day-to-day life.

The application deadline is 1pm on Friday 1st October 2021.

Please note that we use a lottery system to award spaces when a course is oversubscribed.

Campus tours

Campus Tours are available with Student Ambassadors over the coming weeks.

Tickets are available on the day from the Campus Tour/Info desk on L1 Walkway (University Building).


  • Daily from Monday 20th September– Friday 24th September (10am-4pm, campus tours on the hour, once per hour)
  • Daily from Monday 27th September – Friday 1st October (10am-4pm, campus tours every 20 minutes)
  • Daily from Monday 4th October– Friday 8th October (10am-4pm, campus tours on the hour, once per hour)

Professional Mentoring Information Session - Monday 18th October, 12pm - 1pm

The Professional Mentoring Programme is for 2nd, 3rd or final year undergraduates, as well as all postgraduate students. Students are matched with a mentor who can help guide them through the first steps in thinking about their career after university.

Applications open in October and Janaury each year. Learn more about what the Professional Mentoring Programme is and how to make a great application at our information session. If this is your first year, attend the session to learn more so you can apply next year.

CityBuddies is a peer mentoring scheme where 1st year undergraduate students are matched to another student on their course in a later year to mentor them in their first term.

You can register for the scheme as a mentee or mentor.

CitySport is City’s state-of-the-art gym that offers discounted membership to City students and where many of our sports teams pracitce. You can learn more about sport at City here.

Mascot Race - Monday 27th September, 11.30am

As a kick off to the beginning of the Term, watch in awe as our City Wolf races against other mascots within the University.

Held throughout the first 2 weeks of Term, this gives you an opportunity to train with our Student Sport Teams.
