What’s on

Your first weeks at City will be filled with events, talks and activities to make sure that your introduction to university life is as smooth as possible.

To help you plan your first weeks here:

  • Check your induction timetable, which has all the scheduled activities your School is running to help you settle in
  • Choose from the activities which are running all week to fit around your timetable.

Students' Union events

The Students’ Union have a wide range of Virtual Events you can join from Monday 21st September, take a look at the programme and make sure you sign up to the events you are interested in!

Tier 4 Induction Sessions, 4 September - 22 October

  • Platform: Zoom
  • Duration: One hour
  • Available: 4 September - 22 October

These are one hour interactive sessions on Zoom about the main principles of the Tier 4 visa route, Tier 4 students' role and responsibilities, and how City can support students with advice and guidance.

There will be opportunities to ask questions and interact with fellow international students via breakout sessions.

International Students Welcome Event, 18 September

  • Platform: Zoom
  • Duration: One hour
  • Available: 18 September

These are two one hour sessions that will cover the essentials for international students including: culture shock, things to do in London, travel around London, and other important information. The sessions will be interactive and fun with opportunities for students to talk to each other in breakout rooms.

Students will need a book a place, and information will be available on the Student Hub.

President's Talk and Deans' Welcome

The President’s Welcome talks this year will be delivered via short, pre-recorded videos, inserted into each school timetable as appropriate.

Professor Sir Paul Curran will be joined by each school Dean and the Students’ Union President to welcome new students to City.

Library Services Moodle Induction

Our ‘Introduction to Library Services’ Moodle module provides our top tips for making the most of the services provided by CityLibrary.

This includes accessing the library website, using our online resources, finding your course reading lists and online library guides, support for additional needs, how to contact us and much more.

Thriving@City - enhancing and supporting emotional, physical, mental and spiritual health and wellbeing at City.

These online talks will introduce you to a number of our key support services and explain how they can help you to navigate the highs and lows of higher education, offer support in an online environment and provide advice on living in London and making the most of your student experience.

Careers and Employability Moodle Induction

  • Platform: Moodle
  • Duration: 30 mins
  • Available: Anytime

A Careers & Employability Induction Moodle module will be available to all new and returning students from 21st September. This module will introduce you to the support and activities provided by the Careers & Employability team.

It will help new students start thinking about their career goals, and returning students to continue to engage with skills development, career advice and guidance, and practical information as they apply for placements, internships and graduate roles.

Students will be automatically enrolled on this module and you will be able to engage with it in your own time.

Start@City is intended to provide additional support pre-induction for students identified as having a higher risk of non-progression. Students from all schools are targeted directly based on admissions data, and invited to attend a mix of online and on campus events.

In 2020, Start@City will focus on student support services in LeAD and SaAS to provide highly targeted, relevant support to selected students.

Student Check-In

The SU will be running a “wellbeing check in and chat” calling students over the phone to check in on their current experience and wellbeing, and signposting if required to academic and centralised services.

Student Academic Skills and Wellbeing

This is a module on Moodle for all students which has a range of material to support you studying at City. It has been divided into sections for new undergraduate students, returning undergraduate students and postgraduate students.

Once you are registered / re-registered you will be able to access the module through your Moodle account.
