Change to Tier system

The UK Government has announced that London will move from Tier 2 to Tier 3 restrictions on Wednesday 16th December.

This means:

  • you must not socialise with anyone you do not live with or who is not in your support bubble in any indoor setting, whether at home or in a public place. This includes on University premises.  This also applies to private gardens and most outdoor venues.
  • you can see friends and family you do not live with (or do not have a support bubble with) in some outdoor public places, in a group of up to 6. These outdoor public places include: parks, public gardens and playgrounds.
  • hospitality settings are closed, except for takeaway, click-and-collect, drive-through or delivery services
  • you can continue to travel to venues or amenities which are open, but should aim to reduce the number of journeys you make where possible

You can find more information what restrictions are in place during Tier 3 and other tiers on the Government website.

At this stage, London will remain in Tier 3 until Wednesday 23rd December, when the 5-day Christmas bubble system starts.

From Monday 28th December, the Christmas bubbles will end and you must follow the Tier in your area.

What this means for City

Over the seasonal break, our campus will remain open for you to access library services and study spaces if you need them.

If you are on campus during this time, please make sure you continue to wear a face covering unless you are exempt, wash or sanitise your hands regularly, wipe down surfaces and give each other space. You can find out more about the working together to keep our City community safe guidelines on the Student Hub.

You can find more information on City’s current status and what is open on campus on our website.
