Whether you are a new or returning student at City, there are plenty of opportunites and schemes to get invovled with at Cit. They can help you get involved with the community, meet new people, make friends and develop your skills and even earn money.

With lots of these opportunties currently open for applications, here is a list of everything available and when to submit your applciation by.

Languages for General Purposes Programme

All City students can apply to study courses in French, German, Spanish, Arabic and Mandarin for free at various levels!

If you would like to find out more or have questions about the programme, you can attend the online information session on Thursday 29 September, 1pm via Zoom (passcode: 158952). You can also check out Student Hub page to learn more about language studies.

The registration process for the Language courses is now live – apply through the online form before Friday 30 September 2022, 1pm.

Wellbeing Programme

CitySport, the official venue for sport at City, provides fitness, wellbeing and sporting opportunities to students, staff and alumni. They offer a Be Active, Feel Well 8 weeks wellbeing programme that can help improve your wellbeing through physical activity and will teach you how to incorporate this into your daily life.

Sign up from Monday 5 September - Friday 30 September 2022 and the programme starts on Monday 10 October 2022. You can find more information about prices and how to sign up in the information pack.

The Professional Mentoring scheme

It’s a six-month programme that pairs students with industry professionals to help you develop your confidence, employability skills and professional network.

New student applications are now live. The application deadline is Sunday 9 October 2022, 11.59pm. Apply via the CareersHub.

Student Ambassador schemes

At City, there are three different Student Ambassador schemes available to you to join!

Widening Participation (WP) Ambassadors

WP Ambassadors work with schools and colleges to inspire young people to think about university by sharing their experience and working as mentors, presenters and group leaders.

Applications are now open! You will need to complete the online application before Sunday 9 October 2022, 5pm.

Student Voice Ambassadors

Student Voice Ambassadors provide student feedback and utilise it to support and enhance the student experience. There are two roles you can apply for within the scheme: Student Voice and Student Project.

Marketing Student Ambassadors

Marketing Student Ambassadors represent City at events on campus, online and promote the university off campus as well as help with content production. There are three roles within this scheme and each has its own activities:

  • Brand Ambassadors
  • Event Ambassadors
  • Schools Liaison Ambassadors

Micro-Placements Programme 2022/23

It’s a 15-credit elective module that runs in June and July 2023 and that gives you real-life exposure to the business environment and can boost your employability skills. The programme is offered on a select number of courses.

To apply you need to complete an application form which opens on Monday 3 October and closes on Sunday 23 October 2022, 11.59pm.

CityBuddies

CityBuddies are a team of current 2nd and 3rd year students on your course that can give you tips and share their experience to get to grips with your course and get around campus.

Head to CityBuddies site to apply to be a mentor to help new students feel at home in their first few months of university. If you are a new student and would like to get a mentor that can help you with getting started at uni, then apply for a CityBuddy on their website.
