The Worshipful Company of Saddlers, who were involved in the founding of City and continue to support the University and students to this day. As part of our enduring relationship with the Company, the Prime Warnden, Lucy Atherton, has invited a limited number of students and staff at City to join them for a 'Saddlery Showcase'. Here they plan to have demonstrations from people working with leather, making bridles and saddles and explaining how it all comes together. The Company hope to illustrate some of the education, training and vocational career opportunities that are available in the sector.
As the Master of the Company, Her Royal Highness, The Princess Royal, who is also the Chancellor of the University of London which City is a part of, will also be present making it an extra special event.
The Showcase will take place on Tuesday 7 February 2023 between 10.30am-12pm at the historic Saddlers' Hall. Students are required to register in order to attend, which you can do using our online form until Sunday 29 January 2023, 11.59pm. Places will be offered on a first-come-first-serve basis.
The Company makes up one of the 110 livery companies of the City of London's ancient and modern trade assocation and guilds which date back to the 12th Century. The Worshipful Company of Saddlers is one of the very oldest of the City of London Livery companies, with the earliest suriving records dating from around 1160. The Saddlers' Hall where the Company resides dates back to the 14th Century and has endured and been rebuilt several times after the Great Fire of London and the Blitz.
This Showcase is a great opportunity to visit and learn about London's trade herritage so we highly encourage you to register.
