City Virtual Desktop

The City Virtual Desktop (CVD) service gives you access to a Microsoft Windows desktop and the core applications that you have available on campus.

Below is a list of FAQ's:

1. What do I need to access the CVD service?

You need an internet connection, a City login ID and a device capable of running the client software (or any modern browser, e.g. Chrome/Edge). to At a minimum you will need an internet connection and a computer with an up to date mainstream browser.

2. How do I access CVD?

You can access CVD from a browser. You can also connect via Microsoft Remote Desktop

You can access City Virtual Desktop with one of the downloadable clients:

3. Where should I save my files?

Files must be saved to your OneDrive account. Files saved elsewhere will be deleted after 30 days.

4. Can I access my network drives?

Yes, these need to be manually mapped. Instructions on how to map a drive can be found here.

5. How do I transfer files to CVD?

You need to copy any files saved locally into your OneDrive account.

6. What apps are available in my virtual desktop?

University applications are available through Apps Anywhere in the virtual desktop.

7. Where do I find Apps Anywhere?

If you don't have an Apps Anywhere shortcut on your virtual desktop, it can be accessed from a web browser at the following link.

8. Why do I have to sign in twice? 

To access remote resources, you need to sign into your Office 365 account first and then to the virtual desktop.
