The National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT) has announced strikes across three days over pay and jobs on Tuesday 21, Thursday 23 and Saturday 25 June 2022. The strikes are expected to cause widespread disruption to services in England, Scotland, and Wales.

Members of the Unite union at Transport for London (TfL) and London Underground will also be striking on Tuesday 21 June 2022, affecting London and City more directly.

What this means for City

All City building will remain open as usual. Some services may operate slightly differently such as:

  • The Library
    • On Tuesday 21 June only, the Library will be offering an online service only. Although the Library will be closed, you will still be able to access all the online resources and support available on the Library website. Other study spaces on campus will also be open as normal.
    • From Wednesday 22 June - Friday 24 June, the Northampton Square and Business Libraries will be open, however, the Law Library will be closed.
    • As always, all City students can use any library and we recommend staying up to date with all Library opening times by heading to their website.
  • The Student Centre
    • On Tuesday 21 June only, the Student Centre will be offering an online service only, with all supporting being available via email and phone.
    • From Wednesday 22 June onwards, the Student Centre will reopen as normal.
  • Courses that still have scheduled teaching and assessments will move online where possible. Your School will be in touch with more information, including any changes to practical sessions.
  • Student Support Services and IT support will remain open as normal, apart from the Student Counselling, Mental Health and Accessibility Service who will provide online appointments.

Further information

Below you can find which services are set to strike. In addition to specific services, workers at Network Rail, which maintains the railways throughout Britain, will also be striking and so even operators who are not set to strike are still expecting services to be affected. We would encourage you to check before your travel in case anything changes. Bus services are also likely to be busier so you should allow extra time to travel, even if you are not using rail services.
